What to do with extra medicine?

My medicine dosage chnged and when it did I ended up with extra, unopened medicine.

These meds (tablets) are INsAnely expensive .... Trying to figure out what, if anything, I can do with them. I'd love to donate or give to someone who needs .... I did ask my Doc he wasn't sure ....

Any ideas or suggestions?

  1. I actually think some grocery stores or pharmacies have recycling kiosks at their locations. When I lived in WA, there were a few clinics that have med recycling programs. I would say call a couple places, and go from there! Your best shot would be to start at your local hospital center, or perhaps an urgent care walk in. I myself have ended up with extra meds and no idea what to do with them!

I hope this is somewhat helpful, and I hope you find some answers!

    1. where I live there is a free clinic. Maybe see if you have something similar there.

    2. Hi Steph, my name is Lorraine and I have found that taking extra meds or like outdated meds to the local police station who in turn gives them back to the hospitals to help other patients who cannot afford them, if you have equipment or such that you no longer are using try your local breast care foundation and they will take them to help other patients also try your oncologist they accept You're unnecessary items to give to other patients that are going through what we are going through some of them even take you're unused wigs, but as for medication I have found out that I take it to my local police station and they return it back to the pharmacies for proper disposal. I hope this helps

  2. Hi I went and did some digging on this very issue, you made me curious! There’s a program made just for this! I’ll include the link for you, I’d love to know if you have any luck finding an answer. https://sirum.org.

    1. I took my wife's unused meds to the cancer clinic where she had her treatments, scans, etc. They were happy to handle it for me. Kaye, Team Member

        1. That is a wonderful idea... I did some digging and came across this website that lists various states and who to contact for medical supplies and equipment donations. I'll attach the link here for anyone who may be curious and want to explore more: https://asht.org/practice/international/international-medical-equipment-donations. If anyone does, please feel free to share your experiences with us. -Beth (Team Member).
