Recurrence of breast cancer after Covid

Has anyone been diagnosed with MBC almost immediately after a bout of Covid? I had Covid March 10, 2022. Took an MRI for back pain at end of March where it was discovered I had MBC with bone Mets. I seriously thought what they were seeing on MRI had to be connected to the Covid we had just recovered from. It wasn’t until I had a bone biopsy that oncologist discovered I had MBC with bone Mets. Covid is such a mysterious and fairly new disease it makes me go hmmmn…

  1. Hi , I haven't personally experienced MBC after a Covid diagnosis but I did want to reach out see how you were feeling? I know how overwhelming it can be when you are newly diagnosed so feel free to reach out! Let us know how you are feeling, we are here for you!

There is a forum started up for newly diagnosed MBC, feel free to check it out at the link below.

    1. Strange. We caught Covid in Dec 2021. Right at Christmas. After we recovered from it I had ear pain and sore throat that wouldn't go away. At first I was treated for allergies. Still the pain didn't go away. Finally I was sent to a ENT. It was discovered I had tonsil cancer stage 2. Very treatable and for the most part I was optimistic. During my PETscan my mbc bone Mets was found. I had been complaining of hip/lower back pain for months and it did seem to get worse after our Covid. I had been 10 years free from my original breast cancer. I wondered the same as you, wondering if it didn't "kick it in" or "activate" it in some way.

      1. I had been having hip/back pain for months also but during Covid, I had extreme groin pain so bad that I was struggling to walk so I went in and that’s when they found MBC to bone. We will probably be long gone from this earth before the medical experts make the official connection if there is one.

      2. I have to say I am so glad I found this thread!!

My wife and I have a theory about my type of cancer, and it’s so interesting to see that theory on page!

A friend of mine got Covid and it kick started her genetic seizure disorder, so I’m thinking that a somewhat traumatic event the body has to go through can kick start something.

Anyway, seeing this and connecting to it in this way has brought me a little mental peace this morning, and for that, I thank you!

    2. I’m gathering data from people I know, trying to figure out why people are dying so young recently. Also some women are newly diagnosed with BC after Covid or like me, MBC after Covid. It doesn’t appear to matter whether we are vaccinated or unvaccinated. I wish more women would come forward but I think fear of being silenced keeps people silent.

      1. I think it's wonderful that you're trying to gather more information and data. There is so much that we don't know about many conditions, including (but not limited to), cancer and Covid. As you mention women, I did just want to gently remind you that not just women are diagnosed with breast cancer, unfortunately anyone can be diagnosed. And hopefully our community can continue to share and comment here with any experiencing they have with diagnosis after Covid. Thank you for being a part of our community here. Also, as it's been several months since your first post, I just wanted to ask how you're doing currently? Wishing you a gentle night. -- Warmly. Christine (Team Member)

    3. I do realize men can get breast cancer also but I personally have not met any males with the disease so I always forget to mention them so thank you so much for the reminder.

I am doing okay, things are settling down with my treatment, no more nausea thankfully. My last scans were stable and my tumor marker numbers are going down. I see my oncology team once a month and she scans me every three months. Thanks for inquiring about my health.

      1. thank you for sharing how you're doing. I'm glad that things are settling down with your treatment, especially the nausea, and that your scan were stable and numbers going down. (Also, I thought it had probably just slipped your mind that other people can get breast cancer too. I completely understand. I just wanted to make sure all our community reading would feel included.) I really appreciate you being a part of our community here and sharing and commenting. You are part of what makes this such a supportive and helpful community. Wishing you a gentle night. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
