What does empowerment mean to you?

Empowerment can take on different meanings for people. For this discussion, we want to focus on the "power" aspect of the word.

We want to know: What power (if any) do you feel you have in your treatment decisions?

  1. Empowerment is my ability to choose and also to accept and live with the consequences off my choices.

    1. Your statement is exactly what power in dealing with MBC has meant to me for, now 6 years. What I didn't know at the beginning were the many nuances and implications this path would entail (conversations with diverse family members and friends, the many people I wanted to talk with who don't want to talk to me, the necessity of always being vigilant in the medical system - recognizing wrongs and righting them when I can for myself and others).

    2. exactly this, friend! I’m glad you can filter out what is right for you and to it mental health. It is incredibly heartbreaking to know that some folks choose not to talk to you anymore.
      You are not alone!

  2. Fine to have this group.

    1. We're glad that we can be here to support you. If you're open to sharing more we'd love to know which parts of the site resonate with you the most? (reading stories that you can relate to, tips for managing particular drugs or treatments, being a place to share/vent??) Is there anything you want to see more of? We want to be as supportive as we can! Sending you a gentle hug, Patty (Team Member)

  3. Powerment for this discussion to me means inclusion. Lay out all my opinions. Tell me what you think my best opinions/ outcome would be and why you believe this to be the best road then give me a little time to think about it and ask any questions I may have. It's me that has it, it's me that it is happening to, it's my life on the line. Honest and inclusion is always the best route.
