Triple negative breast cancer

Hi I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2020. They did a genetic test but I didn't have any genes and nobody in my family has ever had breast cancer. I had a double mastectomy and a course of chemo and was told that I was cancer free in June 2020. Unfortunately in October 2021 I was told that it had metastasized. I have since had both radiation and chemo and continue to fight but it gets harder everyday. I'm 67 years old and have an amazing husband, 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren and I'm not ready to die. I also had a stroke in January 2021 and am still dealing with the side effects of that. I would love to hear from anyone who has a similar story. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and have a wonderful day

  1. Hi @bunty2713! I am so glad that you found AdvancedBreastCancer.net! Thank you for sharing your story with us. You've certainly had a lot to deal with over the past couple of years! A number of our community members have also been diagnosed with TNBC and we're highlighting their stories in hopes that they can help others, such as yourself. In fact, we shared a newsletter just this morning focused completely on TNBC. I am sharing it here for you. https://newsletters.healthunion.io/advancedbreastcancer.net/advancedbreastcancer.net_45d7c68c-8400-4b8d-8987-4b8538c468ea.html

How are you feeling these days?

    1. I too was recently diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer which is causing much anxiety. Surgery is scheduled for 3/31.

      1. Thank you for being here and for reaching out. I know that this is a difficult time for you and your feelings of anxiety are ones that anyone newly diagnosed can resonate with! I am sharing an article that might be helpful to you as you move towards your surgery and the treatment to follow.

    2. Good luck. I started chemo 2 years ago and was declared cancer free in 9/2020 but on 10/2021 it had metastasized and I only have about a year to live.

      1. I know that you have gone through a lot over a short period of time. While everyone's experience is different, many of our community members have long surpassed their suggested life expectancy. One of our community members interviewed an MBC patient last year who said, "so much depends on how a patient responds to the various treatments and, importantly, the new life-extending treatments that are in the pipeline." I am sharing the article with you should it be helpful - https://advancedbreastcancer.net/living/prognosis-statistics. Have you discussed alternative treatment plans with your doctors? How are you feeling these days? Hugs, Patty (Team Member)
