Queer experiences in Cancerland

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread talking about anyone’s experience on being queer in the clinic. It can be pretty tough as a non-binary cancer thriver, swimming through a sea of pink.

Recently, I partnered with April of Wildfire Magazine, and we hosted a writing workshop with a lot of really wonderful writing prompts. One prompt that we didn’t end up using was one that could help move this thread along a little bit:

My voice is important because…

I think it’s something to reflect upon especially as a queer breast cancer advocate because our voice can mean so much to those folks who can’t speak up. So tell me, why is your voice important?

  1. During her battle with cancer, my wife and I decided that if anyone on the medical field had a problem with us as a couple, it was their problem. We continued to live authentically and never mind their issues. This battle--and our marriage--wasn't about them. Fortunately, we never ran into any problems--and we lived in an extremely conservative state. All the best to you! Kaye, Team Member

    1. Appreciate you!
