Not knowing is the worst

Hi I am new here and glad to be a member. I was diagnosed in October of 2021, I still have no idea what is going on with me. I was told I had invasive dutal carcinoma in my right breast had a mastectomy and 15 lymph nodes testing done that were cancerous. I was to have 3 rounds of chemo but couldn't do but one they told me my cancer was very aggressive but couldn't handle any more chemos I have copd. The Dr said I would have radiation and it would be in Gods hands. I have finished all my radiation. There has been no scans done,I have never been told if I am HR or her nothing but stage 3. I now on ibrance and anaestzole anastrozole with horrible side effects. My out come is worrisome. I don't know what to do. Thank you

  1. Hi . It is understandable why you are worried; I would want a lot more answers too! I am hoping that some of our community members will reach out to share their comments and experiences, but in the meantime, if you haven't already, have you considered seeking a second opinion? Many in the community have shared that they have sought out second, third, and even fourth opinions. It's your health and your body, and it is important to advocate for the answers you need. Sharing an article from one of our health leaders here that talks about her experience with second opinions: https://advancedbreastcancer.net/living/take-control . Sending you strength and a gentle hug, Patty, Team member

    1. Hi -
My first oncologist was similar to this - not enough info which led to major anxiety in me. After talking with some good friend anchors, I asked for a second opinion and ended with the head of the department. This onc is amazing - she tells me the questions before I think of them. I feel completely comfortable with her and able to tell her what my authentic experience is like. I failed out of chemo due to a severe allergy and then of course feared the worst. My new oncologist took my calls and helped me find the ground under my feet. I've learned that these oncologists are not all the same - you need to find one with passion and warmth!

I wish you positive healing energy!
      Robin

      1. thank you so much for taking the time to share with our community. I am so glad to hear you have found an oncologist who is compassionate and understanding. Having a doctor like that in your corner can be extremely helpful. How have you been managing this week? I hope it has been kind. Sending lots of positive energy your way as well. Hugs, Jessica, Team Member

    2. You have every right to seek more information from another doctor, or to demand that your current one communicate better with you. Cancer is difficult enough; having so many unanswered questions makes it unbearable. All my best thoughts for you. Kaye, Team Member

      1. Thank you all for the encouraging words and support. I was able to find out that I have hr+/her-. I was also told that my side effects were in my head that there was no way I was having them. I am in the process of seeing another oncologist. Wish me luck.

        1. So happy to hear you are working to get a second opinion. Finding the perfect doctor to help support you is so very important. This is hard enough, you shouldn't have to be worried about the support you're getting (or not getting) from your medical team. Since you'll be meeting with a new oncologist, I wanted to share a few articles with you. They talk about making the post of your appointments and being your own best advocate, so you get the support and care you need and deserve. Please always remember, we are here for you. Don't hesitate to reach out. Keep us posted on how you're doing and how your appointment goes. Sending you positive vibes and gentle hugs! -Beth (Team Member)
