Medicare and Ibrance in 2024

Hi — I’ve looked at this a few times and I sure pray I’m right! Looks like, if you are not getting any other subsidies, in 2024, Medicare is capping the actual out of pocket around $3,500 per year! Anybody else review this???

  1. Oh noooo I have not looked into this, but I will now. I hope this bumps the post a little and someone can bring some more insight to this.

Are you on Ibrance as part of your treatment? I am too, friend! This is definitely alarming information for high cost med users like ourselves.

    1. I have just been told by my oncologist that exemestane is no longer enough as my tumor markers are up for the last 4 times now. She is suggesting I keep taking the exemestane and add Ibrance. Holy cow! The copay is $3,000 a month. She says there may be a way to get help with the cost, but how can anyone do this?

      1. I know you're not alone in feeling this stress. While I can't speak directly to this topic, I'm hoping others will be able to chime in and share their experiences in finding financial support for their medications and treatments. In the meantime, I wanted to share a few articles that I believe may be helpful and get you started in your research.

I know this can be a lot to process, so there's no pressure, but if you're feeling up to it, I'd love for you to keep us posted on how you're feeling. Sending you gentle hugs and positive vibes! -Beth (Team Member)

      2. IbranceIt is expensive. I had the same issue with coverage, they always seem to get my medication coverage for me. Once I was able to get coverage through SS disability with Medicare and I also have Supplemental coverage with AARA Untied Health Care. I was on Ibrance for 3 1/2 years, before I could no longer take it due to my cancer marker going to high. The big thing with Medicare is you have to get a supplemental plan and part D plan for prescription from the pharmacy.

    2. Just last week, I verified that Medicare caps your prescription drug costs at $2,000 for the year. Plus you can spread out that $2,000 into 12 payments ( about $166 / month). I also verified that specialty drugs are included in this. I was so worried that the specialty, tier 5 drugs would be excluded. The only one I verified was the Ibrance though.

      1. This is definitely the case. I am on medicare and just reached my cap of $2,000. Prior to the $2,000 cap, I was getting my medication at no cost directly from Pfizer. The Pfizer program is based on income, but anyone who is younger and not on Medicare should definitely contact Pfizer and apply for the Pfizer Together program to see if they are eligible.

        1. Thank you for sharing this information. Managing a chronic health condition can take a financial toll! Medicare now caps out-of-pocket prescription costs, and many drug companies have income-based plans. Here's an article from our site that lists some options for maintaining financial stability while dealing with ABC. All the best, Kathy (Team member)
