Fatigue, blood counts, and Ibrance

Background: My first BC diagnosis was DCIS in 2005, followed by lumpectomy on right breast, chemo, radiation, Arimidex; DCIS recurrence in 2016, followed by DMX and tamoxifen; Stage IV diagnosis in 2019, and I've been on Ibrance and Faslodex for 2.5 years, with the original lesions gone and no more findings so far. My problem is the fatigue from Ibrance knocking out my blood counts. I took a few weeks off Ibrance this summer to allow me to travel. After 4 weeks off, I felt great, but then started over again and my blood counts immediately took a dive along with my energy. My oncologist recommends cutting back from 3 weeks on and 1 week off at 75 mg, to 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, to give my blood a chance to recover and me a chance to regain some energy. He does not want me to reduce the dose by cutting the pills in half. Has anyone else reduced their 75 mg Ibrance cycle like this? Did you feel less fatigued? Most important, was there any recurrence? Thx for listening.

  1. Hi, , thanks so much for reaching out. I hope any of our community members who've reduced their Ibrance cycle can let you know their experience with fatigue and potential recurrence. Also, does your oncologist have experience with patients cutting back? He might be able to give you some insight as well (if he hasn't already). Also, I just wanted to check in to see how you're doing. I know your comment is from several days ago. Sending you a gentle hug. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Hola --I am closely following this thread. I am doing well but Ibrance also is doing a number on my blood and hemoglobin counts. My Oncologist has me reducing from 125 to 100; Sep will be my first month; I am anxious to see if it makes a difference!

I TOTALLY trust him but I am anxious to ensure the decrease doesn't affect my NED status. It's been 2 years on the 125mg.....

      Other experiences with this adjustment?

      1. I too am following this thread. I have been on Ibrance 125 for two and a half years. I have never missed a dose so far. My blood counts are always low but to be expected per my oncologist. I am so fatigued I can't even describe it, so I definitely know what you mean. I wish there was some type of relief. Some days I don't even think that I can get out of bed. Fortunately, I am retired, and my schedule is somewhat flexible, so I am able to take breaks and naps during the day. My biggest issue with Ibrance continues to be the cost.
Take care of yourself and good luck. You are in my prayers!

        1. Hi all!! I am on Ibrance, but have never reduced my dose. I wanted to at first because I thought I was losing my mind with how tired I was!!! I feel so silly for never asking to lower my dose before. I am always tired, however, I am a mom to a 6 year old, so I’m literally ALWAYS tired.

I hope y’all can get some relief by lowering your dose!! If you’re comfortable, I also hope you continue to share with us!

Thank you so much for this thread- it’s been quite informative and I’m glad it’s here!
