NYC-based performer/playwright Valerie David performs her award-winning, internationally acclaimed solo show, The Pink Hulk: One Woman’s Journey to Find the Superhero Within. She wrote the autobiographical comedic drama to help inspire and empower others through the courage/inner strength she found to become a 3-time cancer survivor—Stage III Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1999, Stage II Breast Cancer in 2014, Stage IV Metastatic Breast cancer with bone mets in 2018. The Pink Hulk has been accepted into over 50 different play festivals worldwide including England, Finland, Sweden, and Iceland; its motto: NEVER GIVE UP HOPE! Valerie and her solo show have garnered rave reviews and been featured on TV, radio, podcasts, and in publications, including NBC 4 New York, CBS’s Coast Live, Fox’s The Hampton Roads Show, amNY, Beating Cancer Daily, Cure magazine, Broadway World, The IndyStar, The Virginian-Pilot, Richmond magazine, among others.
She is grateful and thankful for the medical advancements that have helped her—through taking her oral meds daily, Valerie currently has no evidence of disease. And this year marks her 25th year of cancer survivorship. Valerie is deeply involved in the cancer community, and she lends her support whenever possible. She is a workshop facilitator each month at Red Door Community (formerly Gilda’s Club of NYC), conducting virtual improv and writing workshops for cancer patients and survivors; she is proud to a be moderator for AdvancedBreastCancer.net of the Social Health Network, and at Rhode Island College, Valerie performed The Pink Hulk for doctors and the nursing department as sensitivity training to educate them on the patient perspective. Her keynote and speaking engagements include Fred Hutch Cancer Center’s 18th Annual Survivorship Event, Breast Friends of Oregon’s Warrior Wellness Women’s Conference, and The Power of Pink Summit Conference in Las Vegas. Through her Pink Hulk performances, Valerie raises money for both domestic and international cancer organizations such as Cancer Pathways, Team Survivor Northwest, The Gathering Place, The Pink Ribbon Connection, Susan G. Komen, and many others.
